If your basement has a bathroom or wet bar it is probabally going to need tile. In other areas carpet is usually preferred because it is cheaper and gives a warmer feeling to the basement. 

• Tile may be a better choice if moisture is a concern.
• Expect to spend at least $5 sq ft to tile your basement
• Floor may need to be leveled in certain areas for tile installation.
